The Story Behind Kalliste and our journey into Self-Catering Accommodation

The name Kalliste is derived from the ancient Greek word Kallistos (or Callistos), meaning "the fairest" or "the most beautiful." Rooted in the Greek word kallos, meaning beauty, the name has carried cultural and aesthetic significance since classical times.

Therese first encountered the name while studying Latin at school and immediately knew it would one day belong to a special home. That dream became a reality in 2016 when we purchased a seaside property in Betty's Bay, an idyllic coastal retreat surrounded by breathtaking ocean and mountain views. It was here that Kalliste finally found its home in Kalliste Beach House.

The creation of Kalliste Misty Shores Cottage marked the beginning of our hospitality journey, one that continues to bring us immense joy. From the start, our vision has been simple: to create beautiful, welcoming spaces where guests can relax, reconnect, and feel completely at home.

Rather than designing properties around the conventions of traditional hotels or holiday rentals, we create spaces that we genuinely love living in ourselves. Every detail is carefully considered, combining comfort, character, and a sense of place to deliver an authentic and memorable stay.
